Ebay Rose Gold Solder hell!
Hi all
I didn't want much rose gold solder, so I ordered a small amount in wire form on Ebay.
The little **** will NOT melt.
Aaaaaargh! Have I been conned?

Well, if a tiny snippet on your bock, using borax, or Auroflux/Auflux won't melt, then it probably is not gold solder.
If it behaves normally on its own, but won't flow into the joint, then your torch is not hot enough. Dennis.

Hi Dennis
I've just used 18 carat yellow gold solder, as it's to solder ear posts and it won't show, and it flowed perfectly. I've been done! Oh well, lesson learned

I've now realised now I probably didn't want advice, I just wanted to vent my anger! Thanks Dennis for listening

It’s evidence that you should never buy bullion on eBay. Even if it melts or seems to work you might send it to assay and find that it’s not what it said on the box and they won’t allow it

Hi Caroline, I emailed the eBay seller and they’ve offered a refund, so I’m going to send it back and not buy on eBay again. Wish I could fine a reputable site that would sell a small amount of rose gold solder.

It's always worth asking here Susie. Many of us have panels of odd grades of solder that we're happy to sell a few snips from!
