the ones i have been doing recently all have evloved because a friend of mine does pampered chef so while she is in the kitchen i can set up my stand. By the time they come to me they have all relaxed and had a drink or two lol, there is also a lady that sells phoenix cards that comes along aswell and the last one i did there where four of us someone selling forever living also, it takes the focus off you a bit i suppose but i still did ok and there are other people in the same boat so it doesent seem as daunting somehow. Why not try having one at your own home and get your friends to bring a friend x

My friends are all on the net hun. I just dont have any other local friends, I kinda lost my friends when Rikki was born as they didnt quite know what to say, then for 13 years i was too busy caring for him and Kurt and Kit that i didnt have time to socialise and i stayed at home with them. since he passed away i worked at home and did holiday cover at my local surgery for the secretary, but again was mainly on my own. In 2002 we set up the garage and although at first in the reception, i worked in a male environment, then about three years ago Val joined us and i took over the book keeping and moved into a side office - on my own lol.

So i honestly just dont have friends lol, apart from my virtual buddies of course

What about using Val's friends Su. And if she doesn't have enough, then ask them all to bring a friend, like Emerald says. Or what about the wives of all the men at the garage? Send an invite home with all the guys. Cards and candles aren't expensive, and everyone needs cards.

And anyway, I would find it easier if they were not my friends (well that's all in my imagination, as I am not doing it, of course). I would somehow feel like I was using my friends. Except if they were ones with money. Then they'd be used to spending.

I have thought about it, especially since joining this forum. And I had in my mind to invite about 8 of my friends (the ones with money), and get them all to bring a friend. And rather than impress upon someone to have it at their house, if they didn't want to, then I might have the first one at my house. Then send them all home with a card advertising what they would get as a hostess if they booked one at their house.

I am thinking about it for the future (perhaps when people have more money to spend).

I went to a party once myself. It was all mexican imported stuff, but I saw loads of money change hands. I didn't buy any of course, because I just looked at it all and thought 'I can make that'.

Anyway. Just hold your breath and put yourself out there Su.

What you say does make complete sence i know - but i dont think Val has many friends lol cos she spends all her time with my husband fishing lol.

And yes if i had friends i would prefer not to be trying to sell to them, much easier to an unknown bod. There are only two guys at the garage now and one of them is my husband so thats a bit of a dead lead too.

I am not trying to be awkward, i just find approaching people really difficult and not having an inner circle of friends to go to really sucks lol

It's difficult, I know. Most of my current friends come from having kids - i.e. at school, from my antenatal group etc. But all you need is one friend who has lots of friends. Don't give up. Perhaps Val knows more people than you think. And what about your parent's friends?

I'm making a lot of assumptions here - i.e. you actually want to do it, you have time etc.

But it would be good for one's self esteem to feel that people wanted to buy their handmade goods. Especially when the buyers couldn't possibly make it themselves.

I'm not giving up for you Su. And I read the other day about a virtual party. So once you get a web site going, you just invite strangers to log on on a particular evening, and they all invite a friend. And all sales that evening at the specified time frame get a discount. I think it said it was best to have a link from another web site, to increase the traffic, but it means you don't have to leave the house, or have any friends!
