    I think opals look better in yellow gold, I know there are many colours of opals, but generally think it enhances the look of the stones.......

    Because gemstones generally vary in colour saturations and hue, the best way to go around choosing the metal is put the gem against a choice of metals, to see which complements the best.

    Fwiw, my first wedding and engagement ring were platinum, this time round it's a silver wedding ring that cost 10p in the charity shop cos it was cracked. So I mended it and it's the most precious thing I own...

    Mind you, I do still have quarter of an ounce of platinum in my dressing table drawer set with a .6 carat flawless diamond, mwahaha!
