    Default Sawing 3mm thick silver...

What would be the best cutting tool for cutting 3mm thick silver sheet? I'm guessing that fret saws are best used on thinner sheet, would a metal cutting scroll saw be more suited?

    Cheers

    Hi Bob,
A scroll saw is just a mechanical fretsaw, so you gain very little in using it, particularly if you have to replace the blade part of the way through, which can be slow and fiddly. I would just buy some Vallorbe no2 blades and use them well lubricated with a piece of candle, or bees wax.

With thick material, you seem to make better progress by leaning the saw forward and then uprighting it, repeating this every few mm. Dennis

I've cut 5mm steel with a jewellers saw, FWIW. In many ways it's easier than using a Hegner to cut as it's a more tactile process so you get better feedback on the cut as you progress. It's easy to try and force the Hegner when it shouldn't be.
