Hi folks
Just thought I'd post a pic of something i made a few weeks back, copper dragon soldered onto a silver bangle,
I don't usually mix these two metals but methinks it's a lot cheaper than using gold.

Carlton

That's gorgeous Carlton - did you solder the dragon on before you formed? Is it a closed (soldered) bangle or a cuff?
Susie
Hi Susie
Thanks for the compliment,
The bangle is 6.5 inches and has a one inch gap when worn, and yes the Dragon was soldered on first
then formed,
I probably will be corrected by the experts lurking on here but I class a cuff as something around two or more inches wide
(open ended)

That's lovely Carlton, and what a beautiful finish
Thanks Caroline
I think i spent more time polishing than making the bangle.

Thats lovely!
Really neat soldering , did you texture the silver before or after soldering the dragon on?
Something this large needs to be soldered and textured before forming, it's soooooooo much easier when
things are flat but not always possible. The solder was pre-run onto the rear of the dragon, the bangle is then
heated to around about 600c with a good layer of borax (paste) (flux) the Dragon is then dropped on and positioned
as quickly as possible (bangle cools quickly) and a large strong flame reheats the bangle which transfers the heat
to the Dragon and pulls the solder down onto it when melting temperature is reached.
The texturing was done with a back to front "S" punch which drove me nuts, it seemed a good idea at the time
but took me forever to complete.

Thanks (Caroleallen)
Many moons ago die- sinkers used back to front punches to make words in the dies so
I've acquired a few over the years and you'd be surprised what interesting patterns they make
