Assay Disaster
Dear All,
I have no idea what to do. I just received 23 items returned from London with the wrong sponsors mark! Half a pound of silver scrap in my opinion.
orders will be late, new metal is worth twice scrap eta. etc.
Unfortunately the office was closed when i got home, will have to call them monday.
Any ideas, suggestions, has this happened to you you ?
Devastated, frankly i should be mad, but frankly i just want to cry

OMG, that's dreadful. To be honest, my hallmark is so small that it's quite difficult to read the sponsor's mark and for all I know, the same thing may have happened to me without me knowing.
I expect Steve from the Assay Office may pop in some time to give you some advice.
-
Oh no :-( Is it lasered or punched?
Steve is fab with advice, hopefully he'll be around later.
-
Laser, i only have one punch size
-
That's dreadful And I suspect it will be Tuesday before you get any sort of answer.
I hope they can put it right for you - you certainly shouldn't be in a position of having to scrap anything.
-
3d or 2d? Engraving, punch marks and the likes can be filled in. Just takes time to do it (and dress the surface back).
-
Peter,
not hitting at you , but who the hell pays? will they do it ? we get drummed in by law, law, law and then this
sorry peter , i just don't know what to think

Peter,
I never specified. but the resuts are odd. I send in 5 chokers 4 are 3d and 1 2d ???? 3d is illegible if I did not know the London make i would never spot it. believe me some of my collection has 100 year old Moscow marks and that needs imagination! ( plan to photograph it this weekends for you to see) 100 years from now with wear a tear this mark might as well not be there .

Nothing to apologise for. I would certainly hope they will sort it - but it *can* be sorted. Actually, thinking about it it has to be the assay office if I've understood things; a hallmark even erroneous can't be defaced...?
The timing is sod's law though.
My last batch I forgot to spec 3d, which is irksome.
BTW - a PUK can do the work too!

I have never even looked at mine when they come back, perhaps I will now. The time thing is your greatest problem but I am sure that they will be able to erode it enough, or fill in the hallmark to enable the correct one to be put back. They are very clever people and have been around a long time so I am sure that this has happened before. Dont worry about things you cant change, it a waste of "worry granules", you should only worry about things you can change.
