Picked up some cuttlefish bones up off the beach yesterday. They need drying out and still have the outer shell attached. Will the shell easily detach once they are dry or do I need to do something?
Thanks

Do you mean the more membranous edge? I just cut them off.
They pong for ages though, and that's before you pour in hot metal.
Yep,
I know they do stink already, I will cut the edges off and dry out in a secluded area ready to cast in the summer. Thanks so much.

When I was 11 I was taken on a months caravanning trip to Holland by neighbours. It turned out I was really just there to be her slave and babysit and it rained for 3 of the 4 weeks. I thought it would be a great idea to bring home some cuttlefish for Charlie the budgie, I think I maybe paid them back with the smell
I usually dry mine in the greenhouse
Don't leave them out exposed to the weather while they dry or they will break down like these over time.
The membrane edges like the 2nd pic shows can be trimmed back fairly easily
