diamond core drill
Hi - has anyone any experience of using a diamond core drill? I have a fancy to drill out some plugs from old plates and mount them in bezels. My question is this - what size core are you left with after drilling, eg using a 25mm core drill.
-
The answer depends on the thickness of the drill Theresa. Supposing it has 3mm walls, the core will be around 19mm in diameter.
However depending on the quality of the plates (I imagine you mean plates for food), you might only get broken cores.
Certainly you will need water for lubrication, a choice of speed, probably a pillar drill, and lots of messy experiments.
You might also need to tidy the edges with a diamond file, or plate. Dennis.

I've taken a flyer and ordered a selection. They don't cost much so I can experiment. The seller said you drill dry. They are designed for ceramics so we will see.....
I seem to be lacking in inspiration since Christmas and have been doing some watercolour paintings of my grandchildren instead. No pressure to sell so very enjoyable and relaxing.

Ah, but we'd all like to see the result of this too Theresa.

Thank you Mandy - but I need a lot more practice. I want to make it all a lot softer and delicate. The eye is brilliant!

Lovely artwork (both of you), I can't draw for toffee!
I look forward to seeing the results of your experiments with the core drills Theresa.
