Default Rolling 6mm 18ct wire to certain dimensions

Will a 6mm square 18ct gold wire by 11mm long use in a rolling mill create 4mm thick 8mm wide by 14mm long? Or there abouts.?
    Thanks for ur time

Probably not. The rolling mill only widens things a tiny bit, most of the increase in dimension is lengthways.

don't do that. it will 'eff up your gold. Why is the exact size so critical?

If the size is a real factor, I'd have thought delft casting might be the way forward.

Yes I think so too, but if you need many, you would send your sample to a caster to be replicated.

Going back to the rolling mill, to roll down to size is largely experimental in this case and best done with a cheap metal such as brass or copper, bought as rods from a model shop.

As Peter and Liz have already said, putting wire through lengthwise will not increase the width by much, but short pieces can be put through sideways to do that. Rolling diagonally will produce a wave shape which is only good for scrap. The metqal also need annealing when it feels too hard.

Anyhow the secret of rolling is to do so lowly and gently, only closing the rollers by a small amount for each pass. Dennis.
