Since playing with wax tubes, I now have a question. Are there any guidelines for statement rings/ signet style rings as to where the curve outward of the shank should start and how wide can it be...
I would recommend Make it with Kim's twelve months of metal which is free on utube. She takes you through every process you need to know.
I have to see the photo as evidence as I'm unconvinced that this could possibly have ended badly, sorry.
I'll post it once it's cast, but it'll be a while. I think it might be best to make a wee load of things then send them to the caster. I've read that thread already :) like to know exactly what I'm...
Hi Dennis, hope you've enjoyed boxing day. I bought the cookson kit during the last sale. Usually I don't buy kits preferring to collect tools but wax carving is such a confusing business that I just...

Oooo I little cat, yes? Lovely. I haven't made a little container yet, your one is fab!
I think you have started well. You have a good overall look for your pieces, not too fussy, well presented.
I would always choose a good book over a video or Internet write up. I really enjoy reading them.
Ps most of the books about wax carving are out of print but there is going to be a new one published in march next year...
I've never tried making a spoon but I know how it's done. I think it might be one of those things that every jeweller should have in their professional bag of precious things:) Having a break from...
Thanks Dennis. I'm sucking up all this info. Just about to go and look at bellores wires as well :)
Might be worth starting something new first, caroline. I find it difficult to get going with things that have been sitting a while and often it's easier to create something spontaneously then go back...
it is fun caroline but i found the ring making really exhausting because of the amount of filing down you have to do. so making another ring will only be done on special occasions :) i think...
Thanks Dennis, just watched some of the videos. can learn a lot just from watching someone going through the process of making something :) i was intending to just solder my cast bird onto ring bands...
Bought a wax carving kit from cooksons on black Friday. Finding it quite entertaining though taking away material is very differant from anything I've done before. This is my little bird yet to be...
thanks dennis, will be investigating :)
i think i want to do complicated stuff :) but it's good to remind everyone that why make something complicated if you can buy what you want. i have a good selection of premade stuff in my stash. i...
Where did you get them cast, is it more cost effective to get several casts of an item?
What sort of burrs did you use for your dog?
Say I wanted to make a little sculpture of a dog or a bear and put it ontop of a ring band how do I go about this? I am thinking metal clay or wax casting. Any advice for making 3d components. It's...
