I agree with George. So much better to make your own so that you know what you are working with and probably much less time wasted

Back in the day we used ground ebony dust, more recently I’ve used crushed drawing pastels because it was all I had. I’ve used powdered dyes in the past too
I think Wendy may suggest super glue but I’ll leave her to advise . Anything glue related I find wooden cocktail sticks really useful for small amounts
You could use bits of masking tape to hold them together until you get the wiring set up and adjusted and tightened so they aren’t going anywhere and then remove the tape
I’ve only ever scored and folded which is a bit more forgiving. Have you tried wiring it? It’s what I would do but getting them on first will be a real faff before you can adjust because they’ll move...
He’s wonderful Dennis. We have them in the burn in the village. We’ve kept a bit quiet about them over the years in case anyone wanted to harm them. I’ve watched 3 cubs playing in the small hours...
I did it a couple of times before I bought one and it was really expensive if you were to do it on a regular basis. I think the size I needed worked out about £1 each
There are loads of great beginners books and an endless amount of videos and tutorials out there to help it not seem so daunting. Sometimes it’s easier to watch something being done to get a feel for...
You’re now on the slippery slope! I blame another forum for tempting me into the Swanstrom disc cutter, my first big spend in decades
It means the thickness of the gold plating is...
They will be mass produced, overseas probably and not made by hand . Caroline
I would dome and then add the finish
As this is a makers forum I’m not sure you’ll get stockists for component parts like that as most people would be making from scratch
I wouldn’t go past my Swanstrom, cheaper than Durston who are producing anything they can at a much dearer price. I had to buy it from Rio Grande though so don’t know what the extra shipping costs...
This was the Tay a few days ago now we are in double figures today

I usually order it with other goods when they are doing free delivery and it comes by courier
I prefer platinol as it doesn’t smell as bad. Both will dissolve the bristles of a brush though so wear gloves or at least lift out of the solution with tongs if dipping the whole piece. I rarely do...
Can I ask what metal you are finishing as I’m guessing it may be harder to finish steel than the precious metals we are used to working with?
It was -14 here last night although you wouldn’t know it with the heat of the sun today. A builder has been round with a plough doing all the roads today. The fire brigade and the local football team...
We have sun and a wee flurry or 2 today. Yesterday we had more than a foot but not expecting any more. Can’t get out to take a phot as shingles and snow aren’t going too well together!
Hi Silkie and welcome
I’ve not used gallery strip but I’m assuming it’s a thinner gauge than the ring so I think the strip is reaching temp before the ring so the solder is going there. You need to...
So am I so that’s what I’ve just done. I’ve also cleared out 4 pages of sent dating back a few years!

I preferred the original question raised by Dennis tbh
Yes I know but this is the Lounge and I thought we were going for something a bit more relaxed!
Well it depends how you like to eat them. When I did eat biscuits I liked the cake part to dry out so it was more of a biscuit so is that more a stale cake or a biscuit:)
