Well, we discussed it and came to the conclusion to engrave a fraction deeper then do the finishing with the pads. Could even dress with patenating fluid then use the pads so leaving the engraving...

It’s only a 2 ton Jack as it was one I had already. But by golly it works. Cost was negligible as I had the aluminium sections over from some other project.
