Hi Anne Marie , It can be done with a Tile saw . A vice isnt really required just be aware of the dangers and use common sense . Plenty of water . Any questions then please send me a PM . John
This is the one I have purchased on advice from someone https://www.cooksongold.com/Resins-and-Crafts/Gel-Thixotropic-Resin-30g,-UN3082-prcode-860-037A . I will be using it with a cup turner which...
You could glue the stones in place and then encase them in an enamelling resin .
Look at the price tag lol , That is to cover the cost of all the stones they chipped while trying to drill holes . Always keep my eye open for any Lapidary work Dennis lol .
As Dennis has said not a good idea trying to drill a stone that size .
Or you can use diamond pastes for polishing . I cant stand the mess cerium makes lol
Do you want to send me a message on my website www.brightongemstones.co.uk and Im sure we can find some for you.
John
What sort of Amber were you looking for .
If you have a 7inch saw then you can do it you will just need to turn it round to get the depth of cut ,...
Another option Is I could cut it for you if you are happy to post it . You can contact me through my website @ www.brightongemstones.co.uk
you can cut it with a tile saw , just make sure to use plenty of water
What is the liquid brightener that you use , I am also in a hard water area
Iolite can be a lovely stone ,I have recently cut a couple that have got Asterism . It can be a bit soft so would depend on the setting.
Maybe hold them in a small mitre jig vice to cut
We have our Shopify website linked with Ebay and have sold a few pieces on there the last couple of months
Need a picture that is clearer and close up to be even in with a chance of guessing, could be an Imperial topaz
Morning , hope everyone is well . What gravers do people use to tidy up bezel edges .
Thanks John
That 1st picture looked like synthetic opal https://geology.com/gemstones/opal/synthetic-opal.shtml
Try using Mezerna compounds instead...
Definately wouldnt be £50 with me lol . It would be best to message me through my website .
Thanks John
I have found the best thing at the moment is to keep busy , and try and avoid seeing too much news as it can get a bit too much at the moment
Failing that possibly a recut of the opal
I have the same one and I still get the white marks , I mainly use mine as a hot water tank with the solution and a toothbrush now
I have just set this up on Shopify and was wondering if there is any way to make my logo bigger , Any critique / help appreciated https://brightongemstones.co.uk/
