Thank you very much for your help too, made me think and made me make from copper first, your rendition should have worked, I did cut the copper to size too but after making mine at 10mm shorter and...
I’ve not tried it yet, I’m assuming I will have to use quite a thin wire, I will watch out for movement, maybe annealing the wire first will be a must, a hydraulic press would be by far the best way
I eventually found used 1.9 oval wire at 216.38 and it worked very well, I also now have a bangle die and a ring die 🫣 thanks for that.
I did my calculation at pi x d+3t, where pi is 3.142, d is 65.5 and t is wire thickness of 1.9, that gave me three lengths of wire at 223.7, after making three copper bangles I cut and interlocked...
got my copper so just working out three lengths, and see how it turns out
I have just bought some 2.5mm copper wire, I plan to roll it down to 1.9mm and hope it goes a little oval too, then put the information and advice to the test plus my own theoretical equation to find...
Dennis, oh no, if anyone would know I would have bet money and put my faith in you, I have read conflicting descriptions of making three band rings, I think I took your advice on that with the three...
Wonderful, thank you, there must be a mathematic formula though, I did nearly get the same result as you, my calculation was the diameter of the first bangle plus three times the wire diameter...
I’ve been asked to make three interlocking bangles like a huge Russian wedding ring. I will be using 3.2x1.9mm oval sterling silver wire. The bangle sizer I have is numbered and she wants a No18,...
Mojo not a problem, it’s just what sells, becomes an expensive hobby otherwise
13440 lots of borax liquid and there didn’t seem to be any firescale, it did take a long time for the gold to fix, I assume because the bangle was 2mm thick so took a lot of heat, thanks for the...
Thanks Caroline, I didnt think the sievert was an issue, I was just trying to make everything as clear as possible, I normally use a medium burner especially for bangles, as well as removing...
No apologies needed, I do move the flame etc, Magic Borax was suggested by Andrew Berry in one of his online tutorials, it is just a premixed solution, water based not spirit based, the whole piece...
Thank you, I probably do tend to overheat because I'm using a sievert torch and I seem to need to heat quite a bit before the solder flows, sometimes the solder just doesn't seem to want to flow at...
I am about to make another bangle, the design is 6x2mm silver wire 21cm length, it will have a hammered finish over 95% of the surface, the middle cm not hammered but with a C stamped, either side...
Excellent, thank you
The quality and hardness of the steel is there but the tools themselves are, I think, greatly overpriced for what they are, maybe I have been suckered too many times now but still trust the steel...
I have been thinking about purchasing a magnetic polisher, I have a barrel polisher and it does a lovely job but takes a very long time, for those with magnetic polishers, what is the advantage, is...
Maybe there lies my fault, I’m hammering hard and maybe not turning enough, I didn’t want to workharden the metal, the main problem was with the durston tool, the metal was not staying central, I’ve...
Thanks Dennis both for the answer and the kind welcome back, I had assumed that the initial ring was not parallel so it makes sense that any pressure would push it over, it will need some practice, I...
What am I doing wrong? I have just bought a durston flaring tool for making spinner rings, my method is as follows, make the ring using10mm wide metal about 0.8mm thick to a size P, I polish it to a...
Thanks Dennis, didn't think I had been missed.
Has anyone any idea how to clean laser cut sparkle tubes, I've made a few necklaces using the Cooksons laser cut frosted or sparkle tubes and beads but when they tarnish they don't clean up but go a...
I did think I said Palladium Dennis, though I knew what you meant, I didn't know that plating had a Hierarchy, so education has taken place, so I will accept I can't plate palladium, don't think the...
Hi, I have carved a pendant design that looks like an upside down fan, spread out in a semicircle, with five folds,it has been cast in 950 Palladium, finished and hallmarked, I want to yellow gold...
