Yes, I saw it and considered it for a while.
I would still need to buy solder and wire, and manage to make a nice shape ring out of it (basically a court shape with flattened sides) + a wedding ring...
Ah, it is made of Palladium 950. She didn't quite like the gold color of gold, and wanted a white shiny ring. Since white gold is mostly grey and need to be plated I figured we should go all the way...
I thought I'd pop in and tell the results of my first casting endeavor.
Firstly, I asked the casters how to size the ring and was told that I should make the CAD drawing to size, so I did, but...
By no means a caster or metallurgist, but I did research it myself (since I want to be able to make my own alloys some day).
If you want to cast palladium (as in the 95% pure stuff) you really...
Welcome!
There are a lot of talented people here that are happy to share their expertise.
I am still a novice, just doing a bit of this and a bit of that, always trying to find something I never...
By the way, how about tossing it into the rotary tumbler for some added work hardening and polishing?
I know I will still have to clean it up and do a bit of extra polishing and buffing...
Thank you!
I already got the 3m discs and they are great!
I also have white and orange Luxi for final buffing and a good polishing cloth for all the nasty fingerprints. ;)
Just some...
Thought of a new question (naturally) ;)
What kind of abrasive do you start with when cleaning the castings up?
All the way from white silicone (very coarse grit), or do you start with something...
Oh, by the way, the plain rings are simple enough to make a bit bigger, but how about rings with heads/prongs?
Do you make them to size and then resize them with a factor, or you add a bit of width...
Oh, yes it was very informational, thank you!
Now I at least know where to start when sizing and won't end up a size too small just because I wanted to be on the safe side (which was actually the...
Wow, I would not expect anyone to cast rings just for testing, thanks a lot!
Will be exciting to see the results! :)

Nice of you to add a bit of confusion. ;)
The caster says the shrinkage is minimal with printing/milling to wax and then casting directly from it. I am unsure in what tolerances "minimal" is...
Well, this didn't really clarify much then. ;)
I would also think that it would have shrunk in to itself, making the ring a bit bigger, not smaller. Though I guess it makes sense for it to shrink...
If you want to take up metal detecting just make sure (depending on where you are) that you are aware of any regulations as to finds, use of metal detectors etc.
For example - in Sweden it is...
Thank you.
Pretty much as I thought, the biggest issue is that my fiancee is located in Russia and I am in Sweden, so we don't see each other that often. I guess I will need to spend a bit on...
Hello everyone!
I have a question (or two) for those of you more experienced with casting, since I have never had any done before.
Background is; I am making wedding and engagement rings for me...
Practice but mostly patience. ;)
One advice I can give is to not solder too much in one go, make sure your solder as well as all the silver is clean (I usually dip it in pickle to get rid of any...
You might get questions related to what war-games you are playing though, since the gamers will surely recognize them. ;)
Also take note of the dimensions, the big ones are really big due to the...
There are also the kind of boxes that is used to house miniature armies for strategy battles, like for instance https://www.feldherr.net/ or http://www.krmulticase.com/default.aspx.
Those come with...
Clever!
Will allow everything to stay nice and tidy. As I work a bit with filigree myself it is hard sometimes to make everything stay nice and put when soldering. And you would always want to...
Very pretty!
Also wondering about the black stuff, seems to be a mixture of charcoal/graphite of some sort, looks home-made.
I love homemade things, it means I usually don't need to pay for...
I noticed that if you have a really big picture it won't upload, so try to scale it down and compress it a bit in your favorite photo editor (PS, Gimp, Paint.NET or IrfanView for example).
You can...
Hello everyone!
I thought I'd sneak in at the last minute and post my latest creation, inspired by leafs and growing plants.
The inside of the leaf symbolizes the living plant, wanting to spring...
Hi!
For flattening small diameter wire; absolutely, for any size sheet: no.
The stress on the pasta maker would crack it in a second.
My pasta make could flatten 1.2 or 1 mm round wire to...
