If you use Argentium or Fine Silver, you will get nice smooth ones. But snipping off regular size pieces makes them more even. I've even weighed out scrap and melted that into small balls.

Peter Keep, a master jeweller, has a jewellery school in Perth and he & Soham are also friends going back donkeys years. Soham also used to teach at the school.
If you weigh out small amounts you can easily melt them on a charcoal block into 'blobs' and hammer them on a steel block to make simple earrings. I find it very therapeutic watching silver melt!...
Personally, I think the best online training is Jewellery Training Solutions. The lessons are beautifully photographed and easy to follow with lots of close-ups. They are also offering a substantial...
You could also look at lessons by Soham Harrison on YouTube. His very early ones are extremely helpful and I learnt a lot from watching them. I also made a load of jump rings in different sizes which...
Hi George - just seen this. Does your SR have the quick release hand pieces? I may be interested if the price is right! I currently have an Axminster pendant but no quick release which I find a pain....
I often use Argentium medium (hard not available) for sterling and find it gives a nice colour and also flows easily. I just use Auflux
Thanks Dennis, perhaps I wont bother with it then, the price has put me off a bit as well.
I'm thinking of making some some earrings in white gold to show off some greyish brown diamonds and wondered what pitfalls I should look out for.
I have only worked with yellow gold, 9, 14 & 18ct...
I'll check that out Dennis. Thanks
I knew someone would have the answer.:ta:
Hi - has anyone made a ring using the D shape profile but turning the rounded side to the inside? I am asking because Cookson's 'easy fit' use a similar profile and I wondered if D would work....
me too, loop the links onto a paper clip or wire or safety pin and they will never tangle again...

When I used to do beading...faced with a tiny bead at the end too small to take the wire through twice, I would add a larger hole decorative bead at the end which allowed me to crimp and thread the...
Have just checked the latest price on 0.6mm silver sheet 100mm x 100mm today and see it has increased by nearly 42% since the end of April.
I wonder when (or if) it will come back down again any...
Pewter is inexpensive and perfect for casting - look at all those fabulous Scandinavian designs.
Try using some slightly abrasive polish like Tripoli it may lift it.
I've just found some square wire I bought in 2019, which I am going to roll down for earrings. The price then was £3.68 and now it's £6.80, hooray the investment paid off!:)
This is a good way to clean the rollers:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAH9qWcR5Tc

I agree George - everything is so dear now, I mark every packet with the latest price so I know for my costings. I re-costed the chain because a customer wanted some, will just have to give her the...
Good morning - I have just been re-costing my chain and was shocked to see how much prices have risen since April. Silver 4mm Belcher has increased from 0.680 per g in April to 0.95 per g today. This...
I've seen that style of Rolling Mill a lot on US sites. Perhaps it's American?
