Does anyone know where you can buy rough gemstones ie not faceted?

I use liver of sulphur (though the boiled egg method is probably cheaper, I have never tried the other alternatives).

Hi
I know there are kits available, but is there a cheaper alternative for testing silver/gold? How effective are magnets for testing silver?
this site has knitting needles in different sizes, and they're fast on postage! much cheaper than buying from a knitting shop:
Counted cross stitch kits and charts from Sew and So - Knitting Pins...
i'm fairly new to using solder paste but find it much easier than using cut solder pieces. just put a tiny bit on a cocktail stick, and wipe it on the inside of the joint and heat up!
went to the local big bookshop and finally bought 'jewellery making' by jinks mcgrath. ended up missing my stop (on the bus). for a book like this, it has really clear pictures and instructions....
thanks everybody! no doubt i will be back with yet another chemistry-related question soon!

I know cooksons and other suppliers sell borax cones, but I'm waiting for an order (including a Borax cone).
I've hunted for Borax in chemists, DIY shops etc, yet nobody seems to know what it is...
thanks for everyones advice. I'm a bit of a newbie at soldering (haven't done it for a few years), and just bought a book on chainmaking. There was no mention of solder paste in the book, only solder...
I read in a precious metal clay book that it is possible to make your own barelling unit. As I'm only an amateur, I was considering giving this a go rather than forking out for one. Has anyone else...
i'd been wondering this myself. didn't really want to mess around with heating the pickle up (as I make my jewellery at home, and don't have a dedicated space as such). It was only last night I read...
Thanks everyone. I'm going to go ahead and try it with the sterling silver. Fine silver headpins bend too easily! Which isn't ideal
I've been looking at tutorials for making headpins, and alot of them state to use fine silver wire. I was wondering what the difference is between fine silver wire and sterling silver wire. Is there...
