I've been googling how to do this but I can't find it anywhere, perhaps I'm not typing in the name of the "technique" as I'm searching for "how to embed a crystal on a sterling silver charm".
Can anyone please shed some light on how I can do this?

those look like they are embedded into PMC to me with a fine silver retainer as a bezel.
If you want to set into actual sheet silver the technique is stone setting rather than embedding. Have a search on here on the gem stone forum and you might find what you are after.
