2 colour ring

The ring was designed on the computer from the customers idea

I cast the parts individually in different metals the yellow is 18ct gold the white is platinum, I prefer using platinum for the accent metal over gold because it doesn't need rhodium plating and so saves time masking the yellow off .This picture shows the parts with there sprues on them. I then 3d printed them

A computer generated render for the customer to approve, The ring at this point is made virtually (its digital coodinates) and has all the information contained in it to be able to print a 3D model

The Platinum after casting the temperature of the metal when cast is over 1800degC things get really Hot !!!!

Thats really interesting thanks for sharing the process!-beautiful ring too!
-
That is a really beautiful ring, it must be lovely to wear too
-
Fascinating! I love seeing the start to finish process of CAD design and 3d printing.
I'd love to learn but have neither the time nor technical skill for computer stuff, so I'll have to stick with my wax and pointy sticks for now!
-
The pointy sticks are for poking the CAD operators?
Fantastic piece Joe; is that an order number alongside the metal on the sprue?
-
Thanks for the nice comments, yes Peter its an order number and the metal it needs to be cast in, it all gets confusing if you have a few items on the printer that look similar or the same ring thats to be cast in different metals, especially if its Popmaster time on the radio and I'm nearing my high score of 7 the concentration tends to be intermittent !

That's a stunning ring. Beautiful. What kind of 3D printer do you use Josef?
