Recycling/melting
When we set up our studio we bought an ingot mould but find the finished ingots are too thick to go through our rolling mill: the cogs don’t meet. Has anyone else had this problem or can suggest a solution? I’ve tried hammering the ingot to make it thinner (put a piece of wood over it to spread the load) but that doesn’t seem to work. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

The ingot mould is adjustable but in length not width.

I’m not sure of the make as my colleague had it - it looks the same as what is still available.

There is your problem, it is a budget model and budget comes with limitations, I can roll almost 6mm in my mill, I would suggest you grind down the the sides on your mould to give a thinner ingot

Alternatively you can get a skillet type mould which is open. Much easier to pour into and you can stop at a level suitable for your mill Dennis.
