I’ve purchased a ring sold as 9ct Gold.
It has a thin band and a small “9ct” stamp but no hallmarks.
Is this likely to be fake gold?

Where did you buy it and how much did you pay. If you didn't pay much, its unlikely to be 9ct, but the best way to find out is to either buy a testing kit, or take it to a jeweller to have it tested.
Oh and what is your location? It is illegal to sell anything made from gold in the UK, without a UK hallmark. Dennis.
I'd point out this is a forum for jewellery makers. If you've any doubts about it being gold I would suggest you take it to a jeweller for testing, followed by contacting trading standards if it turns out not to be.
I think anything over 1g in gold needs a hallmark
Prior to 1975 rings (not wedding rings) were exempt. Now, yes - above 1g needs a hallmark.
