Scrap silver
I have just got my hands on 3 old pocket watch cases…..free!
No works in them. The markings are a bit odd to me. 0.935 with 2 Lions standing on their back legs. Any ideas please? Obviously once I have got the steel pins out of the hinges I want to smelt them down.

https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/swiss-s...t-watch.73272/ You’ll need to read down a bit but if you Google 935 silver and it would seem to be bears rather than lions there is a lot of info.

So would you suggest this should be smelted down separately from sterling?

I’ve no experience of melting down silver but it is a purer metal so wouldn’t have thought it a problem. Someone with more knowledge might answer

Yes. I gather that reclaimed scrap can contain bits of solder so some of this 935 would in theory counteract this “dilution”. I am sure other comments will come in……..
