I have heard of jewellers investment, ie a substance that will withstand firing, to aid with setting non fireable stones. I work with metal clay. I can’t find this by searching Cooksongold or online. Is there another name for it? Can anyone point me to a source? Thank you.
I have no idea about that technique, but what you are looking for is investment powder, which is used for casting by the lost wax process.
It is usually sold in huge amounts, so this is probably the smallest you'll find.

The investment I use to keep my fine silver clay rings from shrinking while torch firing appears to be plaster of paris.
I purchased some to try but haven't used it as yet. Can anyone confirm it is?
Investment and plaster of paris are not the same thing - both are gypsum based (for conventional investment anyway), but investment has a refractory content and just uses the gypsum as binder.
