Image transfer help

Hi, just wondering if anyone has a tried and trusted way of transferring a coloured image to metal..like a color photograph etc. Not for etching purpose, but to use it as a background decoration on metal blanks. I have tried liquitex gel medium with laser printed images, but it leaves a visible layer of gel medium on metal especially within blank spaces. Anybody tried a different method with better aesthetically pleasing results please?
