Visible solder line on joints

Hi there,

I have been making jewellery for about 3/4 years on and off and have only noticed this problem now.
Once I have finished polishing joints I can still see a faint orangey solder line. I always make sure the joints are flush by sawing through the joint and I feel like I spend a long time on polishing with different grades of emery paper, I then finish off the polish in the barrel polisher. I’m not sure if I’m using too much solder or too little. It seems as it’s worse on thick chunky rings and over time it gets more visible and goes slightly darker, I’m sure this is due to the solder oxidising first.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

You don’t say what metal or kind of solder you’re using. An orange solder line seems an odd colour

I have tried to attach a photo, its more orangey in the light.

If it’s only a faint line then I wouldn’t worry but the colour seems odd. Is it in daylight , you haven’t possibly changed your artificial light to something else that’s caused you to notice it?

It could well be different lighting when I am looking at it. Thank you very much for your help.

Try using some slightly abrasive polish like Tripoli it may lift it.
