You need to thin your solder before you cut it. If you don't have a rolling mill, then it's a case of hammer, hammer, hammer!
ok, thanks, i'll go get the hammer! and i'm assuming i'll need to anneal as i go?
Don't anneal solder, just hammer it thin on a flat steel surface, then clean it before cutting off pallions with some old scissors, and get some small shears for the future, these will last you a lifetime and only cost £12.54; http://www.cooksongold.com/Jewellery...prcode-999-658
If you have bought hard or easy solder, then I would use a piercing saw to make a single cut in easy or a couple of cuts lengthwise on hard, down the solder so that you can trim off small square pallions of solder when you do get some shears, in desperation you could cut pallions off with a piercing saw.
