Hi all,
first post:)
A friend told me there is a treatment to enhance the colours of mother of pearl (nacre).
The treatment pops up the iridescence of the material making it visually more attractive.
Wondering if anyone here knows what im talking about and can tell me about the process.

I suspect that your friend has heard about the maeshori process which buffs up pearls.(buffing, heating) Not heard about that relating to mother of pearl but I suppose it is possible. Though there are many shells out there which are pretty good, plenty to go around.
I don't know of any treatment other cleaning and polishing, I use Abalone a fair bit and as said just clean and polish.
If Im not wrong, he said its a chemical process.. might be wrong
