Should i buy this? Fallen in love with the shape think it would make a great ring. Should i squirrel this away for when i've learnt to set a stone?https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/3850...f=user_profile

Way over-priced in my opinion, you can get 5 here for less: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/2009...?ref=related-2
Or squirrel the idea away until A E Wards have some stock of them in, they have Amethyst and Garnet in stock, if it's the shape rather than the specific stone that attracts.
that's what I wondered, thanks paul, not very up on what things are worth yet, will check out your link:D
You might want to keep an eye on Rich Dover’s website Sheena. He has some lovely stones and he’s really helpful. I wouldn’t imagine you’re on FB but he has a closed group so you also get the heads up on incoming stock or piece he is working on

Your precious gems is on Instagram:) I would normally have bought from Marcia Lanyon but she closed down her main business recently and she still does selling events around the country but everything has to be done by phone
This company is in Edinburgh and I use them sometimes http://www.thecuriousgem.co.uk/loose-gemstones.html
I mostly use Wards, always look there first anyway.
Curious gem are good too though, especially for gemstone beads.
If you are going to buy stones then you will have to set them, its the law :D
Ive got hundreds but ssshhhh! don't tell Sheena that
Is this definitely Quartz? I find alot of it when picking and im going to polish a load up soon. As i love the way it looks.
I would gladly send some to people on here to play with once i do a batch. Most of the bits i find are large though so will need breaking down.
Thanks
Mick
Looks like quartz from here,
It is a cheap gemstone, many people like it though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have lost count of the number of quartz ( in its many variations ) items I have made over the years.
It’s cheap but there are people who also think it has healing qualities so it’s very popular. I had a cheap but interesting iron tigers eye necklace in my show once and I could have sold it 6 times over. People just seem to like stones, not necessarily with anything beautifully crafted along with them:/
This is my chunk of Rose quartz which was a gift
