New offshore Hallmark for Birmingham?

The British Hallmarking Council has (not before time) agreed that Hallmarks struck overseas should not be identical to those struck in the UK. They have just put this notice on the website:

The Council has decided in principle that hallmarks struck overseas by UK Assay Offices should be distinguished by way of a special mark. Discussions are now taking place with Assay Offices as to what form that mark should take and once agreed it will be implemented within 1 year.

This means there will be a new Hallmark for Birmingham's subsidiary company working in India. There were 120 submissions to the Public Consultation - which is a huge number as these things go. I think the Birmingham trade for whom the Anchor is very much part of their branding and history will be very happy about this decision.
