Sievert safety

I read on news online that there has been a lot of gas explosions of some kind, It made me think about the safety of the propane gas cylinders. I always make sure the room is ventilated and I keep it in the shed at night. Is there a lot of safety issues with this cylinder? I haven't put any attachments on it, I have the Sievert beginners torch kit. Should I put a safety cut-off valve on it? I have posted before about this a while ago but I can't find my post! I am a little nervous using it...:-D Thank you! I could do with some advice as I can't ask my teacher or DIY guy etc due to lockdown

Quality gas equipment is inherently safe, it is how we treat them that determines how dangerous things are, you could fit a safety cut off valve I have never bothered the main thing is to make sure your connections are tight i.e. hose/burner/handpiece
tighten then check the joins with soapy water and a soft brush, build a small lather around the joins any leak will show up as bubbles, usually means a bit of extra tightening is required or in some cases a seal seal/gasket. (do this every time you break the join apart) The other things are common sense don't store you gas bottle next to you heater, or if you work in a kitchen be mindful of the stove and hob etc avoid storing in a closed cupboard Propane/LPG etc is lighter than air.
Re the news remember there are 100's of 1000's of gas appliances jewellery torches welding set ups in use every minuet of every day with out incident.

Freezing weather could be a problem in that the contents may freeze once it thaws it will be ok heat would have to way above what the weather can provide to be dangerous, gas cylinders are never are neve filled to capacity for the very reason to allow for such things as expansion on hot days, and most are fitted with blow off valves.

Thanks again. I haven't put any attachments on mine. I hear that nose clips are good to put on the hose next to the joints maybe to stop it bending and tearing after a while of working... Also I didn't put an anti blow-back on it. I thought it should be fine as is? Should I put an anti-blow back on it? Thanks again. You are helping allay my fear of it!

Flash back arrestor is not really required for just LPG if you GO LPG and Acetylene you will need flash back arrestors.

What do these abbreviations mean please? I have a beginners sievert from cooksons.. I dont think i use GO LPG or Acetylene... so I wouldn't need to add anything on to the pack i have? Thanks again

If the bottle you use is orange its propane or LPG (liquid petrolium gas). Its the same gas you can use for camping stoves etc. Its a heavier than air gas so if it leaks it finds the lowest point. If its stored in your garden shed I wouldn't worry. You can smell it if it leaks its like bad cabbage lol. You most probably wont have acetylene this is a welding gas and usually has to be purchased through a specialist company like BOC etc. The blurb for your torch says it has a stop of valve so just make sure this is closed when your not using it. Camper vans the world over drive round with bottles of propane in them.
