How's everyone doing in the current worldwide situation?
Well we have shops open so far, (expecting non necessary shops to be regulated soon) but not much else here in NL. Since Sunday no bars, restaurants, schools, cinemas, theatres, but for me the killer is no gym, thankfully the weather allows for running. We all have to keep min 1.5m apart when in public. Keep well everyone, stay safe.
How are you doing Deb?
It goes without saying that people all around are dying from this horrible virus, but I think the most challenging part of this situation is how to keep your head in a good place. It is horribly depressing on a daily basis and there are days when not much gets done, but I do a combination of a lot of exercise, sorting out the allotment, music, making meals out of not much food to make sure it stretches further and trying to keep positive. I've taken the view I'll either get it or not and there's not much I can do to change it. Obviously I'm washing my hands all the time and have always done that whenever I've gone out anyway, as hygene is not what it used to be!
I've had quite a few emails from suppliers saying they are still here for us and supplies are still good. Nothing shut locally to us, yet, but it will devastate high streets and small businesses and we are trying to support them whenever we can.
Apart from that, I do try and regularly have a laugh at things. That's what Spike Milligan, Peter Cook or Dudley Moore would have done! Not politically correct, but it cut through the ****.
We're okay, my youngest (11) finishes school tomorrow, my eldest is pretty much always home anyway and is very unimpressed that she's got to have her weekly maths lesson online but she'll get over it.
I'm still at work, I'm part of a small team who support a young woman with a learning difficulty and we have a park nearby we can go to - biggest thing for her is that she doesn't understand why she can't do her usual activities in the community but at some point the new routine will be more familiar. So I'm fortunate in that my job is pretty essential and I'm able to trust the kids together while I'm at work.
Like you Jules I'm trying to stay away from too much news, just enough to stay informed x
We are not supposed to discuss politics here so I'm keeping well out of this one.
I was trying to be supportive, but got the slant wrong. That's dyxlexia for you. Moderators, can you either remove my post, or remove any political references please - thanks.
Oops, I think I totally forgot about the non political talk. Apologies everyone. Obviously happy for this thread to be deleted.
Unless this has now been edited I haven’t read a thing that could be termed political just the reality of the situation for us. X
Nah, just commiserating in the lounge with a mug of tea and some biccies. Keep safe all. Dennis.
You too Dennis. My OH would now appear to be off until the end of Aug as I wouldn’t imagine they’ll go back after Easter. We may well kill each other! Even though the OS is postponed and not cancelled for May holiday weekend I have at least 12 works in progress on the bench and no incentive to finish them.
Laugh for the day. I ordered a pack of nail brushes as I realised even in normal times ours are a bit boggin as they say in Scotland.
It did say a travel pack but as I don’t travel it meant nothing to me!
This is wha5 arrived today, wedding ring for scale
Attachment 12375 dolly brushes anyone :)
They are for the little people ( Leprechauns )
A friend said they are for pixies so I’ll leave them out at night to keep them safe.
Another friend who likes a little pun said they said a nail brush, one nail at a time!
I think everyone is starting to tire of it I have noticed a lot more traffic on the roads this week, I think people are just starting to ignore the lock down,
I am refurbing my jewellery workshop (big heavy duty bench) and building a new rolling mill, with help of my sparky mate and my engineering mate.
I am close to ignore it too, although i know that it is not right thing to do and still try to stay home. :(|
Working on own business and getting ready to normal life is probabaly the best strategy for now.
I am eating, sleeping and surfing an internet.
I have found the best thing at the moment is to keep busy , and try and avoid seeing too much news as it can get a bit too much at the moment
Just to put things in perspective, my comment re politics was meant to convey that I have political opinions on this subject but intended not to get involved in that side of it
My job as a carer has been reduced in terms of hours but fortunately I'm still getting paid for the hours I'm not doing. So you'd think that I'd be taking advantage of the extra time at home. Unfortunately I've been very disinclined to get to the metal bashing but I hope to put that right soon. I tend to find I can't force creativity out but it's something that benefits from getting busy so I'm going to have a flick through one of my note books and see if I can get started from there.
A period of apparent inactivity is good. Unbeknown to you, the wheels are still going round, rather like restarting a computer and inspiration will follow. Dennis.
We have been on lockdown in Portugal since the beginning of March and in fact I already locked down from the 20th Feb as many other Portuguese did as we could see what was happening in other places.
Thankfully I work from home anyway and have a lot of land with horses so other than my son not being able to go to the gym and no evenings out not much has changed for us.
Business slowed down a little but is still ticking over and I have been lucky that I had quite a bit of stock and my caster is still operating.
I feel extremely fortunate and am very sad to see what many are having to struggle through.
Good to hear from you Sarah. Not much has changed for me either other than OH being here from end of March and likely to be here until the end of Aug when colleges start up again but who knows. Very strange times and loving the quiet. We are so lucky to live in the country and have a garden. I can’t imagine what it would be like in a flat in the city for months
Good to hear from you Sara. Glad you are all well out there. Dennis.
