Thought i would post a poll :). What thickness of metal do you use for the front of basic stud earrings? You can choose more than one option.

That worked then :)
Do you mean the body of the earring, rather than the pinstem?
Sorry can’t help, I ever make them.
I use a variety of thicknesses, depending on what I'm making. Sometimes its .5mm - but can be up to 1mm thick.
I'd love to comment but have not done that many ! I am everywhere atm as only learning and trying everything! I think if I do smth then I would be aiming for mid thickness not too thin and not too heavy,,, but again depends on design too...
The problem is that we all have different stud earrings in mind: some with backplates for tube set stones, some with cut outs of animals etc, some with wire work and some with castings.
The question is rather like 'how long is a piece of string',the answer being 'this long'. Dennis
OK, I dropped mine into the mix and stirred it. Kind regards, Dennis.
The only ones i've made so far have been little copper oak leafs that were cut from 0.7mm sheet - mostly because thats what I had available rather than by design. They feel sturdy enough without looking too bulky, but they could probably go a little finer for a really delicate look.
Thanks to everyone who took part in the poll :) and offered comments.
Yes, the face of the earring typically a cutout shape: circle, horses head, etc
I make them a lot. I use .5 SS sheet. Be careful when soldering the post on that you don’t press too hard or it pushes a little dent out which needs filing back.
.7 is good too but sometimes looks a bit clumsy on intricate designs

It Generally Depends on The Earring Style You Select but The Thicker the Meal Thickness the Lasting Shine You Will Get.
What makes you think that then Jane?
Sorry Dennis - you'll be waiting forever for an answer.
I really don't know why they bother; I couldn't be bothered waiting for this one to add some tinned meat to the proceedings.
Cheeky though, that one, Peter.
