Soldering with Anti-Tarnished Silver

This is my first question as a new member

Q.I have a sterling silver chain it has anti-tarnish coat. It's about 2mm width. >O<
If I solder will it affect the colour of the silver?

Hi Dan,
Whenever you solder metal, it will discolour and require pickling and then re-polishing. Any coating will have burned away too. That said, only the discoloured bit needs to be dangled in the pickle and then rinsed.

If you are fixing the ends into tubular chain-ends, you might consider glueing it in with two part epoxy, such as Araldite. You need to stiffen the very ends of the chain with Araldite first and let that set before threading in place with more of the same.

If you are using jump rings, you might bottle out of soldering and use some very thick wire for them, which will resist opening. Example: 1mm inside diameter jump rings made from 0.9mm wire. Dennis.
