Hello,

I'm very sorry if this question has been asked already. I can't seem to find the answer online or on the forum. I recently created a 9ct rose gold ring and used 18ct yellow solder as I read online that 18ct would be a better match for 9ct rose gold.

After creating the ring it has suddenly occurred to be that it may not pass hallmarking. Please can you let me know if I should be concerned, I don't want to send off the ring for hallmarking and have the ring siezed.

Many thanks
Jenny

You've gone up in carats so should not be a problem
Did it match?

Thank you for your reply. That is a relief to know. I was really worried. Yes the colour matched perfectly I can't see the solder line.

Its fine, they will mark it 9ct.
Can I ask where you bought the solder from?

I don’t really work in gold but when I had to get a piece of solder from a friend he said he never uses anything but 18ct solder

I purchased the solder from bellore rashbels in Hatton garden. The smallest panel you can purchase is 1cmx1cm.

I've found ebay to be a useful source when I've wanted a small amount of some non-routine solder. Cheaper goods and shipping too generally
