Slainte Mhath! Caroline. Hogmanay I remember years ago when this came up in a conversation with my Grandfather (Born and bred in Scotland) and he said it is the time of year when we get drunk and burn everything in sight.
Many times I remember being the first foot (hair is the wrong colour these days)

They definitely get drunk but I think most of my neighbours were in bed before the bells last night. Young Mums with no stamina now! I don’t think there is much first footing with a lucky bit of coal as few have coal fires and if we do we have wood burners and like you not the right hair colour. When we had the dog we were usually our first foot. The tradition of being stocious drunk isn’t kept for new year. Mike is a nighttime safeguarding officer at a halls of residence and some of them are stocious most days of the week:/
We chose to watch the last 4 episodes of the Sinner on Netflix and at 12.10 wished each other a Happy New Year. Couldn’t do the embarrassment of the Hogmanay teuchter progs on the TV
Hope your new year is a good one Bob

Happy New Year from NL....December saw me pledge my solidarity to the King and I became a Dutchie...hence I followed the New years' day tradition and made a dive into our river.
All the best.
