Hi,

Im currently starting a new jewellery/accessory business, its taking me a while but I’m getting there :) Theres soo much i feel i have to learn.

Im wanting to start with necklaces, mainly using gold filled chain but the pendant i found for the necklaces is gold plated. Would it be ok for me to use a gold filled chain with a gold plated pendant? This feels like a really simple question but i dont want the gold plated pendant to bring down the quality of the chain. At the same time I am very sure that the pendant is very good quality and reliable. I have tried to look it up to see if the two materials can work well together but it just compares the two materials.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Dear Naomi,
This is a jewellery making forum, which means that we make our own pendants and mostly avoid filled and plated chains, as they become unsightly when the surface wears through.

That said I see no reason why filled and plated should be incompatible. Dennis.
