Hi all. I have just purchased a foredom bench lathe and need to get some etc. I work with silver so does anyone have a recommendations for which ones I should get as a starting point. I still have a lot to learn about polishing properly! Thanks all

I would suggest you get some 4" stitched polishing mops, maybe three, and keep them separate for each grade of polish.

You might also consider water soluble polishes, like the Manzerna range.
But most of all you will need a hood, preferably with extraction, to protect yourself and your studio from dust and splashes. Dennis.

Stephen Goldsmith, the aptly named master polisher, has his own range of mops and teaches one day polishing courses. He polishes for Theo Fennell. Track him down (website and FB and you can learn all you need to know to do a great job)
I use these for the first polish with tripoli or luxi blue

I’ve found these give a good finish but the hard one is like a big stitched calico and very unyielding so I’d go for the soft and see how it goes

Rouge or white luxi for final polish, haven’t tried menzerna but hear it’s great

Thanks everyone. I did a bit of practice polishing on existing jewellery with my flexshaft and got on okay. Ordered some mops from cookson and will need a hood - thanks Dennis. Watched an 'at the bench' video where Andrew simplifies everything which helped! There are just so many different ways people use...
