Hi all, just wanted to share some pics of my simple delft clay castings of medieval Japanese kakebotoke, or hanging buddha. These were used as temple decorations from the Heian era to the Edo era and were often important features. They were usually cast in bronze and sometimes gilded. The first picture is of an original gilt on bronze kakebotoke in the center from probably the Muromachi period. First I copy the original in pewter, then reconstruct details if needed, from other period piece photos Then cast in silver or bronze. Finally mounting on a wood or sometimes copper disc. 1146911470114711147211473

Very interesting. I have been tempted to try my hand at pewter, but am fearful of contaminating my tools and workspace. Dennis.
