Hi all. Please could I have your opinions on the best way to make this pretty little shell into a pendant.
I did a craft fair at the weekend and a lady asked if I could make it into a wearable necklace.
I thought about wire wrapping it but I think it needs plain and simple. It also needs to lie nicely on the neck.
Its just under 2cm x 1.5 with a domed back. ..

I think my first thought would be a plain silver cup bezel with a jump ring soldered to it, second: drill a hole in the shell (drilled in water).

Yeah... not done either of these yet but need to have a go. Will look at some bezel cups. Thanks Sheen [emoji1303]

I agree. As a jeweller you are always tempted to overdo the metal work, when a well closed jump ring will do.

If you don't want to drill the shell, then a small, bent and roughened metal tab with a hole can be glued at the back with rapid setting Araldite and will hold fine.

The proposed chain also needs to be taken into account, for the way the shell is mounted. Dennis.

A metal tab sounds better than drilling a hole in the shell

It depends how robust it is and how robust you want it to be really.
Im not a fan of fragile items just being drilled because even as a pendant it is likely to get damaged so if its fragile I would bezel set it.

Yep. Im gonna bezel it. I think il have to het some gallery strip and use it back to front as the back is so irregular and the front will be simple looking then with just a little detail curving round the edges.
Thanks for your suggestions all x

when i saw the shell i had imagined these type of design. what's your opinion about that?

That looks really nice but Ithink she wanted very plain so was thinking fancy gallery strip curling round the back humpy bit and the plain bezel round the front so she can see the shell front without any other fussiness. First photo for the back and second for the front

What do you think?
