I've just had a quick go at repoussé ( that's not me folks, you know what I want to say) and need a hammer. Just bought Nancy Corwin's excellent book but unsure about the weight of a hammer for smaller pieces of copper and I guess, silver Later .The authoress says "a light and a medium" so 1/4 oz and ...? I'd be very grateful for a tip from someone in the know. I'm itching to start but obviously don't want to buy twice.
I was also wondering what others use to hold their torch at The table when not in use? At the moment my Sievert is dangling over an open vice. Would Lalique have behaved thus? I think not.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Repoussé hammers come in different sizes and a craftsman would have several, often self made during their apprenticeship.

If in doubt and only up for one, buy a medium weight, or go for the moderately priced Cookson pair http://www.cooksongold.com/Jewellery-Tools/Set-Of-2-Repousse-Hammers-prcode-999-3101&query=repousse%20hammer&channel=uk

The Sievert has a hook and can hang facing inwards on the rim of a soldering hearth, such as a heavy roasting tin, or barbecue pan, often on sale reduced at this time of year. Dennis

I've got a rotating hearth with a deep rim so my sievert hangs as Dennis said on the rim

As Denis said go for a medium weight hammer I am very new to repousse as well, I am fortunate in the fact that I have the equipment and produce my own hammers these days
this is what holds my torch

I hang my torches by using straight brass dresser hooks screwed into the edge of my workbench, like these;https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brass-Shouldered-Straight-Dresser-Medium/dp/B06Y6FWMCQ

As for hammers, I shaped most of my hammers with a grindstone, I bought cheap cross pein and ball pein hammers,
