Finally had some time to play this weekend and made a necklace and earrings set from some etched silver and Roman glass.

Quite a distinctive look. Not bad for a weekend. What Next? Dennis.

Thanks for your comment Dennis, my initial post was a bit short as my phone was running out of charge! I started the earrings and necklace on Friday evening (set myself the challenge of soldering the jump rings which *was* a challenge due to the glass) and succeded with all but one by Saturday afternoon. I then got some more metal etched, including a ring band that I'd already made up but wasn't quite sure what to do with.

I spent Sunday at a day workshop and made a quick diamond twisted wire ring as part of a set I'm making for my sister for Christmas, polished up the etched ring, filed and shaped the etched ear-cuff (both for me) and made my first prong set piece with a cute bit of lavender coloured glass (mum will be getting that for Christmas).

I think the next thing I'll be doing is practicing some more prong settings - I didn't think I liked how they look when I've looked at photos, but realised that cutting the prongs to the *correct* length for the stone is half the battle.

Well, I read a blog by a jeweller who described how she used nail art plates and nail varnish to stamp designs on her silver. So the downside is they're not my free-hand work!
I used a clear stamper so that i could see where the designs were going so that I could overlap them.

Here's the blog that inspired me https://cinnamonjewellery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/etching-silver-using-nail-art-stamps.html?m=1

And I got my nail art plates from MoYou.co.uk - they have a useful video about how to transfer the designs to nails and the technique is the same for silver.

Pleased to be able to share something useful, I've learned an awful lot from this forum.
