Problems with electroplated cubes

Hi, looking for some advice please?
I have some gorgeous purple electroplated cubes but the plating is rubbing off leaving them uneven.
I went over one with some really fine sanding block and it's a kinda dull gray metal underneath, they were supposed to be hematite but I'm not convinced they are...

Is there anything (inexpensive) I can paint them with or dip them into to make them useable?

Haematite is a dark grey colour, but I can't for the life of me see why anyone should choose to colour it. Presumably they were beads and so could be threaded on wire and returned to a more lustrous appearance with polishing compounds. Vonax on a soft mop works particularly well on haematite.

Plating is always going to wear through on well used jewellery, so it is better to source the true colours, in this case possibly amethyst. Dennis.

I can see two possibilities here:
-Titanium that has been anodized (quite light in weight/low density)
or
-Hematite with a thin oxide layer (high density, heavy)

If it is titanium then you would need to get them anodizied again, but the layers should not rub off, so I think you have oxidised hematite and I dont know how they make that finnish.
