Can you put plated objects in a tumbler or will the process take the plate off?

I think it depends on the quality and thickness of the plating.
Using shot and soap, the action is just to burnish, but the needles leave a pinprick pattern, which might be undesirable or penetrate very thin plating. Dennis.
