I've just bought a kiln for this purpose Emma, and from my research and talking to people, you'd regret NOT buying one with a controller. Fortunately I discovered my bargain kiln ( £100! ) has one included after all after some initial confusion.

Absolute bargain Nick.

The kiln I have and will be selling doesn't have a temperature control and though I managed perfectly well for the little I was doing and I believe an independent thermometer can be easily fitted to it, I'd get one with a thermometer inbuilt if I was doing a lot of enamelling.
