Afternoon all,

Just completed this small key pendant, made from Sterling silver. I'm trying to make items more regularly in-between shifts so I can put them into stock for when I 'eventually' get around to completing my new website. Its a New Year's resolution for 2017 so it will happen soon.. or at least thats why I'm telling myself.

As with all my stuff, I like to keep things relatively plain and simple.

The handle part of the key was made from round wire, the shaft was roughly cast as an ingot before being refined on the lathe, and also having the grooves put in. The toothed part was also cast, then filed to square and had a simple groove filed into it. The jump-ring at the top is a simple jump-ring made from round wire, flattened, then textured in order to give it a sparkly appearance.

The stone is a very subtle blue Topaz, in a simple tube-setting. Because the colour of the stone is so subtle, it was really quite tricky to photograph but a hint of colour has come through non-the-less. Thanks everyone, critique welcomed as always.

That's really cute Nick, The colour of the topaz has come out really well on the photo. I love the texture on the jump ring, a nice detail, how did you do the texturing if you don't mind me asking?

It's smooth on the inside, textured on the edges and I did it with a hammer handpiece.

Thanks Sue.

Nice job Nick, did you turn the barrel of the key on the lathe ?

Good lighting technique. Like the jump ring texturing also.

Yes Josef, first cast a rough cylindrical ingot then refined on the lathe.

Thanks James. Just a simple design but enjoyed using the lathe to create it.

It is confusing that there is a relatively new member from Canada with the name tag Goldsmithing and my tag is Goldsmith. I hope that we don't get mixed when submitting messages and replies!

That's lovely Nick. Is it a London blue topaz? That's what the colour looks like on my monitor, a kind of deep inky blue.

Now I am confused if my name is Jim or James........what are the odds.

I'm not 100% sure Lauren, its just a correct sized one that I had kicking about in the mancave and can't recall what I ordered!

Thanks for kind comment.
