Cufflink Distances

Hello,

I am about to make some cufflinks, is there a general distance or size of jump ring used between the two sides/faces ?

Also, I vaguely remember seeing/owning a pair of press stud/cufflinks that had one side/face smaller, this side went inside the cuffed sleeve next to the arm, the idea was to reduce the gap of a cuffed sleeve so the sleeve looked like/became a normal shirt sleeve.

What was this style of cufflink/ press stud called ? Again, what would the distance be between the two face/sides ?

Cufflinks usually have one decorated side and one smaller side to pass through the button hole, often a torpedo shape.

They are about 20mm apart and are connected by a rigid curved bar, round or made from strip, a bar connected by jump rings, or by a short chain. you can also use ready made findings with a spring.

The more rigid the construction, the easier they will be to put on. Chains are a pain. You also need to know the orientation of the slit of the button holes, which is across the wrist, not in line with it. I do not think you will succeed in making smoothly working press studs by hand.

Ideally before setting out you will browse on line, or a mens' outfitters, or a big store, to get the general idea. Dennis.
