This is my pianist brooch, after an Art Deco illustration by Georges Barbier, made for a special occasion.

As I added detail after detail and soldered them: the roll textures, the hair, the revealing dress, the draped skirt, the gold embellishments, the decorated stool, the arched frame, the double pin, a little voice said ‘stop now, or it will be a dog’s dinner’. Dennis.

Sterling silver Brooch, 30x40mm.
Fine silver dress, 18 ct gold embellishments. Dennis.

Both beautiful and elegant - how long did it take to make?

Thank you, all for looking in and your kind comments.

I was pleased to have some old stock of gold wire to roll down for the touches, George.

How long to make it is difficult to answer, because a lot of time was spent agonising about it in the wee hours. It was fished after about three weeks of intermittent effort.

The soldering does not bother me much, since I have learned that by raising the temperature of the whole piece to a barely visible glow in a darkened area, with a large bushy flame, I can make accurately directed additions with my mini torch.
Using scorpers for the face and hair got me hot under the collar though. Dennis.

That's fantastic Dennis, I can virtually here the tinkling of the ivories from here. Very impressive.

That's amazing Dennis, I really don't know how it's possible to solder that many components so well! Veritable witchcraft!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Of course this is only my interpretation. As mentioned above, the original design was by Georges Barbier, a renowned art deco artist and print maker.

How long it took, Bob is difficult to calculate, but probably about fifteen hours. Dennis.

haha! I have inadvertently freaked out my fellow studio holders by leaving glow-in-the-dark trails around my studio door. It's lots of fun though. I've made some textured porcelain cabs lately and set them into necklaces so perfume oils can be added to them with pipettes, so there are all kinds of scents and lights going on at the moment :-)
