Hi all, I am just about to return to Jewellery work having given up nearly 30 years ago to become a professional photographer. Knees which don't work properly prevent me from doing photography commissions effectively, so back to the bench.
I used to specialise in a type of filigree work when I was a full time jeweller and still have most of my display stock. This was made in silver but I had it flash plated with gold (I couldn't afford real gold samples!)
I would very much like to remove the plating, so could anyone suggest the best way to do this?

Phoning the platers might give you an answer, either to reverse the process, or plate over the top in silver again. Gold can also be dissolved away in aqua regia, but that would etch the underlying silver and is not a pleasant task. Dennis

Thanks Dennis.
The old plating was very thin, just a flash plating to give the appearance of what the items would look like in gold, and has subsequently worn even thinner (it was done 30 years ago).
I suppose I could try a heavy buffing mop on one small piece, nothing ventured......
