Hello there!
I have been asked to make a silver bangle ready for the birth of a baby due in June. As I won't be able to measure the size I was wondering if anyone has made one before? I have looked on the internet and the size suggested seems to be around 4 to 4 1/2 inches. I think it would be nice if the bangle were to fit for at least for a few years. Has anyone made an adjustable one before and if so what gauge silver did you use?
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thank you!

Hi, if you look at traditional baby bangles on line, you will see that they have a means of sliding to vary the size. The metal has to be quite thin, say 0.6 to 0.7mm (23 or 21gauge) And correspondingly narrow, say 5.0-6.0mm or three sixteenth inches.

Here is a chart to help you http://www.naturesbabyblankets.com/page/1263812

Practice with copper first, and you will iron out the snags, before committing. Regards, Dennis

Am I the only one thinking why would you want a bangle for a new born baby? :)

No, it certainly crossed my mind :D ....but then as it's a commission I'm not going to be stressing that point.
That's why I think I'm going to go for one that can be worn as the child gets older - otherwise it would just be a keepsake I suppose.

Yep, keep them happy, then in a year or so you'll get the commission for the ear studs ;)

I am 70 next year and have a baby bracelet my dad gave me as a "being born" present, almost antique now.

Yes, we gave both our daughters silver bangles when they were born and now in turn they have passed them on to their daughters. Buying others for the next female children. Us blokes had half pint beer mugs! My parents did the same thing. I think this was very much more the fashion all those years ago.

My daughter has two I was given as a baby, I've now had to buy the appropriate bits so I can try and make one myself! (They were traditional Christening gifts, no?)

Aren't they known as "Christening bracelets" ?
