Hi,
Quick question, just curious: Tim McCreight's book describes sandblasting by hand, using a bucket and a funnel - just wondering if anyone had tried this & if so, how it went?

It's not as hard an effect as powered sandblasting, but it works. There's a similar technique in Japanese metalwork involving pouring garnet sand on from height; I've also seen a suggestion of using a piece of drain pipe with end caps and shaking the piece with sand in it.
Cheap enough to try, give it a go on some copper and see how you like it.

Hi Joella,
We had a discussion on matte finishes only about thee weeks ago. At that time I posted my experience with sand blasted pieces. The conclusion was that on soft metals the finish is beautiful, but marks too easily to be sustainable. The link is below:
